National Railway Museum - Year 4

On Wednesday 9th February, we are delighted to say that we will be taking all Year 4 pupils on a visit to the National Railway Museum in York. We are very pleased to be able to offer pupils the chance for an educational visit outside of school after a long period of time where this has not been possible. It will be a terrific opportunity for the students to see up close the locomotives that we are studying in the Spring Term as part of our Transport topic and will bring our topic to life. Whilst there, we will have time to explore the museum in groups and to board iconic trains of the past, including Mallard.

There will also be an additional workshop, where students will work together to solve problems then design and build a strong tunnel. Drawing on Science links with forces and materials, the children will learn how to engineer solutions to problems. The learning will continue with a visit to the Eurostar engine, where we will be able to examine closely the cut-through of the Channel Tunnel.

The cost of the trip, including coach travel and workshop, will be £11 per pupil and this has been added to ParentPay. We appreciate your contributions so that the trip is able to go ahead. Many thanks to those who have already made this payment.

Pupils will also be required to bring a packed lunch and coat with them on the day. The visit will take place during normal school ours, with us arriving back at school around 3pm, traffic permitting.

If you have any further questions about the visit, then please speak to a member of the Year 4 team. We will send reminders and photographs on Seesaw in the spring.
